This has been an amazing few weeks in Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club’s history. Four of its athletes have been selected for the top four international meetings this summer - the IAAF World, European under 23 and European junior championships and the Commonwealth Youth Games - while, at the other end of the age scale, winning all four of their men’s Southern Counties Veterans Athletics League meetings for the first time, writes Tom Pollak.
Hercules Wimbledon’s Theo Etienne ran the opening leg for the British 4x100m relay team which was just pipped for gold medals in the European under 23 championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, on Sunday. The quartet were edged out by Germany in the tightest of finishes in which both the British and German teams clocked the same time of 39.11 seconds.
After missing the England under 20 championships at Bedford earlier this month, the trial event for the European junior championships in Mannheim, Germany, Hercules Wimbledon’s Rechmial Miller has secured selection for the championships with an impressive 100m win in the Bauhaus Junioren Gala meeting earlier this month to clinch the third 100m sprint spot in the British team.
